11km. Market: Saturday morning.
Revel
boasts a bustling
Saturday morning market (so, why
do markets always bustle?)
and at least 2
sizeable supermarkets
- Casino on
the road to Castres (lhs) and
InterMarché on the road to Lac
de Saint-Ferréol (rhs). As with most French
towns there are plenty of
furniture places, and Revel
is the 'city of fine crafted
furniture' according to the
official Revel website [revel-lauragais.com].
There's a specialist wine shop
too. Revel is shut on Sundays and mostly shut on Mondays (supermarkets open).

Félix. 6km.
There's a small shop on the
D622, on the right just as you
leave Saint-Félix in the direction
of TOULOUSE. Opening times/days
seem to be rather unpredictable.
It sells milk. We know that much,
even though it had closed for travaux et funèbres
the day that we went there to buy
some.
Sybella
, the even smaller shop/cafe on
the corner of the market square
sells an eclectic mix of ladies
clothing and does a pretty good
lunch too. In a side street off
the square you will find Expo,
a shop that specialises in locally made lace blouses
and scarves, hand-dyed in blue pastel
by the
lady who runs the shop/cafe.
Pastel, also known as cocagne
in the Languedoc and woad
to the ancient Britons, was
largely supplanted as by indigo
when it arrived in France from
1560 onwards but has enjoyed
something of a revival in recent
years thanks to modern
cultivation techniques.

Shopping. Anyone who
has ever tried to get dinner in
a French hotel at one minute
past nine in the evening will
know that 'Open All Hours' is
NOT a common slogan in
France. Rural France is mostly closed
on Sundays and at other
odd days and half days in
between. However the shops in Villefranche-de-Lauragais
open between 10am and around
12 noon on Sundays. The small village store on the road out from
Saint-Félix to Toulouse (see
above) is rumoured to open on
Sundays. Restaurants do open but you need to book early for Sunday lunch.
